Challenge Detroit Have Fun on Wheels

News 12Fifth through tenth grade girls in the greater Detroit area Challenge clubs had fun on wheels this month. The club held its regional Kickoff event at the Queen of the Family Retreat Center in Oxford, Michigan, on September 10, 2010. Members participated in a ‘roller rally’ by teams. Every girl had to be ‘on wheels,’ using scooters, rip-sticks, bikes, in-line skates and even go-carts! About 70 girls, 12 team leaders, and 15 parents from 4 different Challenge teams attended. Each team received a Bingo card with items they needed to find in a nearby neighborhood. Some of the items included a porcelain goose, a gargoyle, a giant Red Wings poster, and a fish shaped mailbox. The first team to find 15 of the 20 items won a giant ice cream sundae.   Parents in attendance got more information about the Challenge clubs. “It was such a great way to get the girls together at the beginning of the Challenge year!” said team leader Sarah Luttinen. Her sister, Rebecca Luttinen, who is in her third year as a Challenge member, said the event helped the girls to see the value of hard work and perseverance to get a reward.
