Girls from across the Midwest attend Challenge summer camp in Missouri

News 18“I have never been so close to God.” These are the words of Anna Skinner from Wichita, Kansas, who attended the “R-U-N-2 Real Friends” Challenge summer camp in Eureka, Missouri. Girls from all over the Midwestern United States attended the June 3 – 8, 2011, event at Camp Wyman. Sixty-two girls representing Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska and Oklahoma enjoyed dynamic talks from guest speakers, canoeing, rope courses, swimming, sports, special themed meals and other activities. “But most important was their encounter with Jesus Christ,” said Regnum Christi consecrated woman Lisa Dwan, who helped facilitate the event. The girls celebrated daily Mass led by Father Thomas Salazar, LC, and were led by the RC consecrated women in daily spiritual meditations. They also participated in Eucharistic adoration and a special Eucharistic procession. For many, this procession was the highlight of their camp experience. The girls processed behind Father Thomas who was carrying the Blessed Sacrament solemnly exposed. At one moment they passed the Camp Wyman staff playing a game of volleyball. The game stopped as players noticed the girls singing in prayer, and they remained in silence until the procession passed by. “In the end, the camp was a great success,” said Lisa. “The girls really learned to run to their real friend, Jesus Christ.”
